Attractions abound within a short walk or ride from each cruise terminal. Check out these sample time-based itineraries from our partner, Visit Seattle. Travel is back and visitors will soon arrive in the region to begin their cruise vacation to Alaska. That means hundreds of seasonal jobs at the airport and at the Port's two cruise terminals. Smith Cove Terminal is at the north end of the city's waterfront. Bell Street Terminal is on the downtown waterfront very close to major attractions.

There are also a number of hotels nearby if you want to stay in downtown Seattle. Today the two terminals (with a third on the way) serve more than 1.2 million passengers in a typical year — most of that during the busy summer Alaskan cruise season. When it comes to departure ports, it’s tough to beat a destination like Seattle. As a world-class city tucked into one of the most beautiful regions on the planet, there’s a ton to see and do in the area.

The Port of Seattle offers two separate Seattle cruise terminals a few miles from one another. In May 2017 was opened the renovated Pier 66 cruise terminal facility (see in the "terminal" section below) where are homeported NCL ships. The 15-year lease to NCL (until 2032) is estimated to generate over USD 2,3 billion in total revenue, nearly 900 jobs and over USD 65 million in taxes. 2017 was a record year for the cruise port - with handled 218 ship calls and nearly 1,072 million passengers (9% increase over 2016's 983,539 pax) and total revenue USD 501 million.

In August 2015 was formed the Northwest Seaport Alliance via a merger of Port Tacoma's and Port Seattle's cargo shipping operations. Seattle Yellow Cabs from the airport to Pier 66 (Bell Street Cruise Terminal) charge between $40 and $60. Taxis to Pier 91 are three miles further and are charged at the regular metered rate, depending on traffic. Cruisers who are being picked up from Pier 91 (Smith Cove Terminal) after their cruise should advise family and friends to use the cell phone waiting lot. If you have time, you can enjoy a 3-hour Seattle City Tour by bus and see all the sights including the Space Needle.

Cruise Ship Parking in Seattle

After baggage drop, security and check-in at Pier 66, cruise passengers may be asked to wait for boarding, especially if they arrive ahead of time. There is a separate area for VIP and suite passengers as well as a general waiting area. The Seattle Port Valet is a great service that allows cruisers to enjoy sightseeing in Seattle without having their luggage in tow.

There is also parking right nearby if you are driving in for a cruise. Unlike other cruise ports, the terminals aren’t located at one single spot. We look forward to welcoming passengers back to our cruise terminals and are excited for the approaching 2023 Alaska cruise season.

Expect to pay higher prices for locations closer to the port during peak times. To save money, consider an airport hotel instead and travel to the cruise port the following morning. There are several transportation options from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to the cruise port. You can take a taxi, use rideshare services like Uber or Lyft, or opt for airport shuttle services. Alternatively, public transit is available via the Central Link Light Rail that connects the airport to downtown Seattle, from where you can take a taxi to the cruise terminal.

Driving to the PortIf you’re lucky enough to live in the area, you can simply drive to the cruise port. And while traffic in the area can be trying, it’s hard to beat the convenience of driving in for your cruise. No matter which terminal you sail from there is parking available at the port. You can arrive on your own schedule and also leave right when you get off the ship the day your cruise returns. One nice perk is that some hotels cater to cruise passengers with perks like shuttles to the cruise port or cruise parking. We also have a list of hotels with shuttles to the Seattle cruise port.

This is so common that many credit card machines now even have buttons with 15% / 18% / 20% on them so it will calculate the tip for you if you choose that option. You are always given the option to select the amount you’d like to tip, or you can opt not to put the tip on your card and give a cash tip instead. Although it’s not mandatory, tipping is customary in the United States and some service industries will expect a tip for a job well done.

It’s particularly famous for its extensive collection of memorabilia from iconic figures like Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. Also, the museum hosts interactive installations, allowing you to engage with various aspects of pop culture. An alternative to Seattle’s Great Wheel, the Space Needle provides aerial views of Seattle Center. The Seattle landmark, built for the 1962 World’s Fair, is 605 feet tall. While it’s shorter than observation towers like the CN Tower, it still offers impressive views.

Statistical data shows that an average turnaround cruise tourist spends USD 1547 in the city (on hotels/lodging, dining/drinking, transportation, shopping). On arrival, cruise passengers may be offered soft drinks while waiting to board but there are no cafes actually at the cruise terminal. However, there is plenty of seating with a great waterfront view and restrooms are available. Although Seattle cruise port is not as busy as the main cruise ports in the USA, such as Miami and Port Everglades, it handles over one million cruise passengers. If the train schedule doesn’t work for you, several bus companies offer inexpensive transportation. From Vancouver, you can drive and find a long-term parking lot near your departure port.
